Thanks for the input! I am going to schedule an appointment with K/E tomorrow. I am only about 3-4 miles from them, so it would be much more convenient to have it done there. But then again, when it comes to messing with my eyes, I am not going to take any shortcuts. I would gladly pay more or drive further to get the best service/care.

I just had my epi removal on the 1st and in my post op kit there was a card saying to give it to a friend for a "special discount" I really don't know what it gives you. Ask when you call and you can have it if you want

My wife had ICL and I had lasik with Key Whitman. Zero complaints and it couldn't have been easier.

K/E did mine in 2005... best thing I ever did in my life. Barbie recommended them to me.

Very good personalized service and no complaints. I need to go back for a check up. I haven't been back since my initial couple of follow ups. I still see perfectly though. And my vision was 20/400 before, 20/20 after.

Anywhere between $1,500 - $2,000. Depends on where you go and who you see. Having a good insurance policy is the key.

Yes, under a Flexible Spending Account under the this particular Insurance Policy. Unfortunately, however, most Insurance providers deem this as an elective procedure. Which I think is total BS as when one's vision gets to the point where it can affect their job performance or their ability to drive.

I used Dr Tylock and love it. I got it done 6 years ago next month and still consider it one of the best purchases I have ever made.

I had the intralase thing on one eye but had to get PRK (old-old method) on the other eye due to having glaucoma. They were afraid that if they cut a flap in that eye the pressure would cause the weakened wall to deform and negate the correction they made. That eye took a month or so to heal, the other eye was perfect that same day. The halos and such lasted a while but that is no worse that having some haze on your glasses. Mine is either totally gone or I just don't notice it.

I do have an FSA card with a little over $1k on it. I work for a school district, so my card doesn't expire at the end of Dec. like some do. I plan on using what is on my FSA card and just paying cash for the difference. I just spoke with K/E and they said that they offer additional discounts for teachers/police/fire fighters, so hopefully my out-of-pocket expense won't be more than $1k after I use the FSA.

Ive had great aftercare at k&e I have had to had each each retouched and it was completely free except my $50 normal eye exam all the pre and post op exams were free and I recently had to have an epi removal which is when some cells grow under the flap and they lift the flap and remove the cells. All free. I've been under the laser 4x and no hassle with getting any retouches.

Reading your post just scares the shit out of me. You've already had a retouch and...Epithelial ingrowth? Epithelial ingrowth under the flap is probably one of the worst things that can happen as a side effect of this operation. You are a bad example of advertising for K/E.

Did you have the microkeratome or blade-free intralase laser cut the flap? I'm betting your flap was cut with the microkeratome.

Saving money is not the most important factor when considering Lasik. You only have one set of eyes. Choose your Dr. wisely.

I completely agree. As I stated in one of my previous posts, when it comes to somebody fucking around with my eyes/vision, I will gladly pay more or drive further to use a Dr. who seems to be the most advanced. I simply posted that they offer a discount, which is nice, but not a deciding factor.

boothe has done a million, he's not going to ruin your eyes. the guy is an impersonable robot but he is a total control freak. people may not like him for his personality but who cares about that. you will be fine.

i have mine scheduled on jan 6th with boothe using next years flex spending account.

Boothe does a TON of procedures and as such they like to bill his expertise. In reality I don't think he does much of anything but read the chart and perform the actual surgery. He has a good team and by all accounts does good work, but I keep hearing about how it feels like a cattle call... In and out.

Personally, I could care less. Do it right and dont charge me an arm and a leg.
