The US Constitution, by it's very nature is meant to limit Government by saying what powers it has and doesn't have. The third article of the 1st amendment specifically says that government cannot create a religion or stop others from practicing their religion.

This is why we don't have teacher led prayer in schools. It isn't that the Constitution prevents prayer, it is that the teacher is an agent of the government and thus cannot lead prayer because it represents a government endorsement of religious belief. That kind of action can even be an enforcement of religion since a teacher is an authority figure in a school..

If the Constitution were to actually put a limit on religion, then the feds would have the ability to tell us who or what we can or cannot worship. Even though I'm a Christian (and an admitted flawed one at that) I have no desire to have a Theocracy. I can just imagine how bad it could potentially be if Southern Baptists ran things. (feel free to scratch out Southern Baptists and replace it with any other religious sect)
A post worthy of a response!

It is also limiting religion, in that it cannot weasel its way into the government (how effective it's been we can obviously see in states like TN and AZ.) How do you think religion came into power in the dark ages? It got intertwined with the government and started creating laws that were religious in nature. By banning such laws from being passed, you are limiting religion. Contrary to some peoples belief, there are still instances to this day that people are fighting (and in some cases succeeding) to inject religion into the government.

I don't give two shits if a legislator is religious or not. I take issue when he/she tries to pass laws, morally judge me, or limit my freedoms with the basis of a holy book or the belief in a divine power.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

That's what you chose to use? I figured you would've been more bent on the beating in the name of Jesus. I said I am Christian. Never said I was perfect therefore no need for some self-righteous pompous ass judging my actions.
