I'm kinda surprised they bothered, given all the cop stories of late .

When you bail out on a runner, you aren't taking the time to put remove the keys and lock the doors. I know in a perfect world it would be so, but if you do that you lose valuable time that you could use chasing the guy.
Uhh seeing as how it was parked at the courthouse , i dont see why the guy couldnt have locked the doors. On to p of that, ive been told by two different cops years apart in arlington that its illegal to leave your keys in the car . So that cops need to have the appropriate discipline taken against him for breaking the law .

The arlington thing is true i believe. Gas stations used to have it posted, some older 7-11s still do

              Ignorance. It's your strong suit.

Uhhh, it wasn't parked at the courthouse. It was several blocks away. The officer (female) bailed out to run after the guy, and he led her through a parking lot and doubled back on her. He was black and SURPRISE! he was able to outrun her back to the car.

Oh, and it isn't against the law for the popo to leave the keys in the car.

He must have ran to a different city where it was legal to leave keys in an unlocked vehicle.

Find the law and post it if you are so sure.

                    Law or department policy?

Law or not, you should not leave your keys in your car - as a normal citizen.

I could see some flexibility given to police in the situation mentioned above - via their policy. Cause, ya know - police are above the law anyway. (I kid...kind of)

                      Law.

Department policy can be more stringent, but when it comes to operation of an emergency vehicle, they are pretty much exempt from traffic laws, and the law of leaving keys in vehicle is in the traffic code.

Here we go with your incessant complaining again!

If you don't like the law, let your representative know that you want it changed and for them to submit a bill.

Just bitching about it does nothing.

Very subtle, but you managed to snag a couple.
