Did you ask the owner if the dog is up to date on it's rabies vaccine? If it's not then the dog automatically dies and the head gets sent to A&M to be tested. If it's up to date on it's shots then it'll probably still be put in quarantine at the city pound to be observed.

I was on a pit bull attack last night as odd as that may sound. These fantastic people had their pit chained to a tree in the back yard when not in the house and they had about five kids. Well the neighbors 10 yo that has been told to stay away from the dog was running thru the area between the fence and the house and the dog got him. Two or three good bites to the face and one to the side by the lung area. When we walked up he went apeshit and wanted a piece of us, jumping the air and trying to break his chain. When AC showed up to quarantine the dog it took three of the household members to hold the dog from getting loose. We had several neighbors tell us this dog got loose all the time. Just so happened today he was not loose. While I was talking to the fire captain he told me he has been on 14 severe bite calls in his career. He said thirteen were pit bulls and one was a Rott. All dogs have potential to be dangerous we just have pit bull central in my town. I will say without a doubt pits are the hands down most aggressive dogs I have ever had to deal with. I had a pretty crazy white German Sheppard 10 years ago but he never bit anyone that wasnt in his back yard or the house. He never tried to scale a fence and get people or other animals either.

Chopper attacked two infants, seven toddlers, a first grader, a housewife, and ripped the arms off three grannys this week.

Obviously, its been a slow week!

Matt, I hope she is feeling better. That does look like a pretty nasty bite.

Ironically Chow's are known to be one of the more aggressive breeds, definitely fuck them.

I was attacked by the neighbors Rottweiller when I was younger, at the family lake house. He chased me into the lake, where he caught me, and "attacked." The owner said that based on the minor severity of the bites, that he was just "playing" and showing who's boss, but it was traumatic enough as a child, that it took me a good few years to get over an irrational fear of larger breeds.

I'm fine around them now, but only do so when they are with their owners. I never got Jester crazy about them, but I still won't get near a stange dog in the situation described in the OP.

Idiots that say "that pitbull is harmless and would never hurt a fly" are fucking idiots. Any dog can have a bad day and bite the shit out of you.

I most likely would have over reacted and go into some BIG trouble if that would have happened to my wife.
But your wife needs to not be worrying about strange dogs roaming around.
I bet she learned a lesson.
As far as a getting the law involved,I say that's on y'all.

    This is for Dallas:

    Sec 7-3.1
    (a) An owner of an animal commits an offense if he fails to restrain the animal at all times in a fenced yard, in an enclosed pen or structure, or by a tether or leash.

    (b) No animal may be restrained by a tether or leash unless the animal is in the immediate possession of and accompanied by the animal's owner.

    (c) It is a defense to prosecution under Subsection (a) that the animal was:

    (1) a dog in an off-leash site established under Section 32-6.1 of this code; or

    (2) a feral cat participating in a trap, neuter, and return program approved by the director.

SEC. 32-6.1. OFF-LEASH SITES FOR DOGS. (dog parks, this section was too long to copy)
