Yeah that's what I thought. By non-associative I meant they were not flying their country's colors. Well, I'm glad we did that, now that we and China are such good allies and all. For some reason I thought the RAF was also involved but apparently I was mistaken."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Well, they fought for Chiang kai sheck, who was the the Dictator of China. Mao led the commies to overthrow him a few years later, and they associated the U.S. with helping their "opressor"Originally posted by 5.0_CJ View PostYeah that's what I thought. They got rolled like a fat whore by Japan. They were a pre-industrialized nation. They needed the help.Originally posted by 46Tbird View PostWe were more worried about stopping Japan than helping China.
No doubt the Chinese were a little insulted by that, and rightly so."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Another example of how ousting a dictator is not always the best thing for us. *cough Egypt*Originally posted by sc281 View PostWell, they fought for Chiang kai sheck, who was the the Dictator of China. Well, its a little more in depth than that.Originally posted by sc281 View PostWell, they fought for Chiang kai sheck, who was the the Dictator of China. Mao led the commies to overthrow him a few years later, and they associated the U.S. with helping their "opressor"

The KMD and the communist forces had a "truce" going during WWII , a mutual pact to fight the japanese. We also gave some supplies to the communist forces, but there was a LOT of worries about giving arms and armament to them, and Chang Kai-Shek was very critical of any weapons shipments to the communists.
Honestly, it wasnt until after the war, and after the failure of George C Marshalls negotiations (which were terrible) that the communists turned against the US. Hell, Mao wanted to use a strong relationship with the US to help reduce soviet influence on china.
At the time, we still thought communism throughout the world was all soviet controlled, and everyone was in lock-step with Moscow. Shit, the chinese fired more bullets at the russians than we ever did.

unfortunately it would be rusted and ruined. The desert preserved this plane incredibly.Originally posted by jw33 View PostI've heard stories that at Iwo Jima they just buried a lot of shit in a huge pit instead of trying to do anything with it after the war. No telling how many B29's and other planes/equipment got left on that island."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Exactly zero.Originally posted by jw33 View PostNo telling how many B29's ... got left on that island.
The B-29 was a top-secret weapons delivery system at the time and they didn't want anyone to get their hands on them.
They figured someone would be able to glean the technology, but I don't think anyone expected to see an exact copy flying with a red star on it.
But... the TU-4 really did happen. And that should give you an idea of how revolutionary American military technology was at the time.
When the government pays, the government controls.
