Here is how I look at it. Just be cool with the cop and they will prolly be cool with you. If he would to say anything about the harness. Just talk it over with him, but not talking down to the cop. I would hate to use a 5 pt harness for daily use.

Also dont the harness expire? Is it like 3 or so years?

The Texas Transportation Code does not specify that it has to be equipment originally installed by the vehicle manufacturer.

Sec. 547.601. SAFETY BELTS REQUIRED. A motor vehicle required by Chapter 548 to be inspected shall be equipped with front safety belts if safety belt anchorages were part of the manufacturer's original equipment on the vehicle.

    Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.

They've got a sweet little system for screwing you over.

Last time I looked only one company made a dot 5 point harness.

You can keep a factory belt with a cage for daily use. I did.

i was pulled over in my nova for not having them on, when i was wearing a white button up shirt. The officer thought i was wearing suspenders........nope it was a 5 point harness. the car didnt come factory with seatbelts, in 62 they were an option, so just to be able to run it down the track i put them in.

FTP much?? Show me in the inspection manual where it talks about the speedometer. It's not there I looked before I made the post. Just because he does something wrong doesn't mean he's NOT talking out his ass. It just means he's a dumbass and is in the wrong.
