Roy Nelson is a BJJ guy and who would look at that guy and think he's a pro? I wanna know why it's not okay for Kyle to do it for his own reasons and not the reasons that Steve thinks he should. That's like saying don't jog unless you plan on running a marathon.Originally posted by ImayBblack View PostI mean i can understand doing it for a hobby and to keep in shape, but I dont understand how he would go anywhere doing it? He makes it sound like he is going pro, and by the looks of it I don't see that happening. By all means I could be wrong. I'm just curious on why people take it so seriously if they are not going anywhere."Any dog under 50lbs is a cat and cats are pointless." - Ron Swanson

Yes. It's an ass whooping. I really don't like rolling in a gi either, technical as it may be. I also have the cheapo itchy white one, so i'm sure that makes it all that much worse.Originally posted by Nate View PostKyle-you at genisis?
fwiw josh i didn't take his comment to mean i shouldn't do it. I think he was just saying either go full force or don't bother because you won't gain anything at half throttle.

That's why I asked what his reasons where? Someone that does it 2x a week is no different that someone that does it 10x a week. Other than the person that does it 10x a week must not have a job or has more time on their hands. Now if he was training to become a pro, than his justification of "going somewhere" I might understand. But last time I checked you just have to serve time to get belts.Originally posted by poopnut2 View PostRoy Nelson is a BJJ guy and who would look at that guy and think he's a pro? Why are you hyper-sensititive to what I have to say about it? Did you READ what he said? He said he doesn't do BJJ to get into shape, but rather for the technique. BJJ isn't one of those things you can do like that. The techniques require flexibility, dexterity and most importanly muscular endurance. You can't get that by simply going in, learning techniques and not rolling for hours. It takes time to build yourself for BJJ properly.Originally posted by ImayBblack View PostI mean i can understand doing it for a hobby and to keep in shape, but I dont understand how he would go anywhere doing it? It's perfectly fine to do whatever he likes of course. But just like weightloss, without the proper plan and execution, the end result won't be effective. He'll be able to talk about the techniques, able to show them with a cooperative partner, but not effectively use it against a resisting opponent. If he's just doing it for fun, fine so be it, thats cool for him. It's still goes against what it's there for which is to be efficient and effective.Originally posted by poopnut2 View PostRoy Nelson is a BJJ guy and who would look at that guy and think he's a pro? There is a big difference between the casual practioner who goes in twice a week, learns a few techniques and then leaves when everyone else stays to roll. There is even a bigger difference from the people who dedicated themselves to the pursuit of excellence for no other reason other than the goal. I do this in every art I have practiced, I work very hard and down to every little detail. Now I'm applying those things to training and weightloss as well. One doesn't need to "go pro" to want to be good at something.Originally posted by ImayBblack View PostThat's why I asked what his reasons where? Training twice a week for two hours doing only technique would be like me only dieting two days a week and feasting the other 5 days. It makes no sense.
Maybe at your school you have to just serve time to get belts, not mine. You earn rank in a Gracie school. If you can't show you can execute techniques, you don't get ranked.

Compensating for other areas of life that are lacking...I bet he enjoys being a fatboy that can kick someone's ass. Look at Tank Abbott. He can kick the average guy's ass but he is still a fatass with metabolic syndrome who will die an early death.Originally posted by ImayBblack View PostI mean i can understand doing it for a hobby and to keep in shape, but I dont understand how he would go anywhere doing it? Yeah I don't train anymore. I have been to two schools and they both were that way. I just was curious on why you trained. Don't take offense to it. You just make it out to be more than just a hobby. You should not have to have a certain "reason" to train. Everyone is different. Ya know?Originally posted by Steve View PostMaybe at your school you have to just serve time to get belts, not mine. When i trained (Mauy Thai) Don't really care for BJJ. I did it to get into shape and thats about it. Yes i competed a couple of times but it was just for fun. I did not dedicate my life to it because I know it was not something I planned on doing for a living.See you later...
