I guess I should have said man? Fuck that, I've never been great with women, but I'll be damned if I get driven to my job.

Same here, I would go to work with my dad in the oilfield on the weekends and in the summer and as soon as we left the highway and got on a lease I drove the whole time.

I wanted to drive from the time I was about 2yrs old.

There is an unmatched feeling of freedom in being able to hop in your vehicle at any time and go where you want. It's obviously not "ultimate freedom", but it's about as good as it gets for most Americans.

I was in south east TX the other day, and bingo I'm in Colorado the next. No standing in lines, sitting next to somebody you don't know, deadlines, time schedules, etc. If I want to head up to Montana or Oregon right now or tomorrow or whenever, I can. And I can stay as long as I want.

I could see not driving much in a big metropolitan area, but fuck living in some slap-dick town like Waxahachie and not being mobile

I forbid my wife to have any more friends who can't drive themselves. She has had 3 of them. Thankfully they have all kind of drifted apart. These were all women ranging from 22 - 30.

I was kinda eager when my step-son-in-law was getting ready to drive thinking it would be a great time to bond. He really didn't care too much if he got a car or drove and his biggest ambition (if you could even call it that) was to get his Mom's Windstar van so he could haul all his other deadbeat pothead buddies around to one anothers houses to play XBox. He seemed to have no interest in girls at all. I don't think he was gay (he has since grown a lot and turning out to be a responsible young man in his 20's now and starting to take some interest), but we would be at the store and he would be completely oblivious to girls that were smoking hot. Even if I nudged and nodded, he'd just look at me and say "wut?".

To add to that...anyone under 20 know how to drive a stick? I had a guy come over to by some parts and we started talking about track days and what-not. He said he had two kids, 17 & 20, and they were both into cars and wanted to do track-days & drive fast. I told him I could get them into a spec Miata for a weekend for cheap. "Is that a stick?" Yep! "Oh well neither one knows how to drive a stick and doesn't want to learn". This is coming from a guy that drives a Viper. Could you imagine, your Dad has a Viper, and you have never even driven it because you don't want to drive a stick-shift?

If DFW had a better public trans system, I would significantly cut down on my diving.

My niece has zero interest in driving anywhere and she is 20. She grew up in Michigan and came down here at around 16, living in Waxahachie. I thought it was just her but I guess not.

If perfected the transporter I'd probably strop driving but until then I like to go out and explore this amazing country of ours. That means riding and driving and not being at the mercy of an airline or bus schedule.

I dated a chick for a while. Never owned a car and didn't have plans to get one (grew up in Wash. DC area and went though HS here in Texas and currently in college. She's 21 and still doesn't have a car. It's one of the big reasons why I stopped seeing her.

Same with bars, at 21, I would be shocked to see anyone north of 30 at a bar. Seems like my generation is still down for going out and seeing the younger kids is a rarity.
