I can not speak for the store but it is my quess the store manager has asked some of the employees to have their areas ready to close at 6PM, the close of business. That way those employees clock out just a minute or two after closing. One area remained open (door security scanners still on) and employees in that area to run the cash registers and pick up,clean up after all "customers" leave. It probably rotates which area closes so that the same people are not the ones staying "late" every time.

Here is why. If the store had say 20 employees on the clock at 6PM. They have half "ready to go" at 6PM and clock out. The others that have to stay to close the remaining areas will be there probably at least 20-30 minutes. So the manager just knocked off probably 3-5 hours of labor costs. Those costs add up in a hurry. And then multiply that for a year! That is big savings for any businesss.

you are a god damn idiot and must work there. name one other store that herds you out like cattle at 6:00 on the dot. regardless, i wasnt trying to purchase, nor was i trying to shop, i was trying to leave at 6 pm and they were sealing off exits with upward of 200 customers still in the store.

Every mall and retail place I've been in at closing announces they're closed and usually begins to lock some of their exits within 5 minutes of closing. Two things you need to understand. If those doors open for any reason (someone exiting), then someone can come in them. Now I'm sure you're going to suggest that they could set the locks so they can't be opened from the outside, but how does that prevent someone when they catch the door before it closes after someone exits.

What I've typically seen in malls is that they close all the exits/entrances in the stores that go directly outside. They funnel everyone to the exit/entrance that leads into the mall foyer/hall. From there, people can exit the mall without entering another store. If you give someone a way to come in, they'll take it. You can't expect retail stores to pay an army of people just to man all the exits to keep people from entering at closing time. If they sent all the employees on the clock to do that, then no one would be there for last minute checkouts and to shut things down.

i wasnt asking for special treatment. the way it was handled left every customer in the store confused and frustrated. You might be ok with making your baby wait in the hot, cold, rain, or snow while you walk a fucking mall but i'm not. Dumbest thing you have ever said

this makes sense and I have seen a department store do this. What jcp was doing was funneling everyone OUTSIDE fucking people who were parked on the other side of the mall. No one here would expect to have to walk the entire mall from the outside nor would anyone expect to be locked in by 6:00 on the dot. I completely agree with not letting people in, other wise the store would never get closed down. You have to give people a couple minutes and you have to explain that you are locking everything by such and such time to give people a chance. not just blind side them and say sorry and lie about it by blaming it on security
