They are not near as bad as the CV. We had to have skid plates made for the oil pans after replacing the 5th one in 03. I m more worried about the front ends than the under carriage.Originally posted by dee View PostTill you hit a dip in pursuit and knock a whole in the oil pan. Those cars are nice in theory and run really well I just don't see them living long as a patrol vehicle.

No. But a 6.0 with 6spd auto will catch fools like you that think its just a v6. And I will gaurantee you that more are caught than get away in Garland. Case in point last night, the biker that went all the way to West Taxakoni before getting caught, the biker that got pummeled 6yrs ago etc etc etc.......Originally posted by SS Junk View PostYeah a 4000lb turd with a V6 is definitely going to be the new cock of the walk...
You should come through and look for trouble then try to get away....

You must not have been under either. The CV oil pan hung below the cross member and was only 6in off the ground. The oil pan on the caprice is tucked up inside the sub frame. .Originally posted by dee View PostIf you were knocking holes in CV oil pans then people were driving over stuff a car was never meant to and the Chevys will be worse off with less ground clearance.

I work on both the CV oil pan is even with the cross member not below it, measure your distance on the Caprice's aluminum pan and you're worse off. The CV has a steel pan that bends very little and won't crack like aluminum does when under high stress impacts again if y'all knocked a hole in a steel pan a car shouldn't have been there.Originally posted by G.. Better measure again. The Cv slopes back and hangs down. Now, no doubt the guys in question were running over "normal duty obstacles" but they were ripping the pans off the blocks in 4 cases. One was just smushed all up. But the caprice pan is above bottom line. Its a good 1/2 inOriginally posted by dee View PostI work on both the CV oil pan is even with the cross member not below it, measure your distance on the Caprice's aluminum pan and you're worse off. I believe you're thinking transmission pan which does hang down a bit and even has sump that hangs another 3/4" or so the oil pan is even with the aluminum cross member on 03' & up CV's. If an oil pan was ripped off the block then there would have been other substantial damage to the cars as in radiator, condenser, oil cooler, radiator core support and transmission pan."It's another burrito, it's a cold Lone Star in my hand!"

Most of the time if you see something like that it's because that person was hauling way too much ass or doing something really stupid that the detective decided to stop him/her.Originally posted by roliath View Postthe other day I saw a UC CAMRY pulling someone over. blew my fucking mind.
