Personally, yes i do simply because i dont trust the gun rumbling around in my center console without being safety on. If it's on my person in a holster I no problem carrying a gun with a chambered round. My gun is hammerless, so that's kind of a moot point. chambered = ready to fire, no matter what.Originally posted by stevo View PostYes, but you have the safety on, correct? That is what I asked...

Why wouldn't you be carrying it in a holster that covers the trigger?Originally posted by stevo View PostI guess I am too cautious then, to me it seems there are way too many silly accidents that can occur on a daily basis that could cause a trigger to be bumped and something like this happening for me to carry my weapon with the hammer pulled and the safety off.

So we assume that he didn't holster his shit properly. And we know (based on the article) that she hugged him from behind. They both made mistakes, but her mistake was more directly responsble for what happened, imo.
Why would anyone "hug" a cop (or anyone wearing a gun) from behind?
According to my blame calculator, this is 67.4% her fault, 12.2% his fault, 15.3% Obama's fault, and 5.1% of the blame falls on the Texas rat snake.

Because there are way too many accidents that I can think of happening to carry a pistol cocked and the safety off.Originally posted by Nash B. View PostWhy wouldn't you be carrying it in a holster that covers the trigger?
And for everyone that mentioned it, I never mentioned carrying one without a round in the chamber... I mentioned carrying one cocked (as in hammer/firing pin pulled back, etc) and safety off as was obvious in this accident.

If it was a Glock, then there is no hammer and no safety. I believe all LEO are required to carry with round in the chamber so...Originally posted by stevo View PostBecause there are way too many accidents that I can think of happening to carry a pistol cocked and the safety off.

StevoMost cops I know always carry with one in the pipe, cocked and ready, but yes...with the safety on. However, I think it's still pretty common that some rely on their holster more than the safety....and I'm betting that was this guys issue (or maybe he forgot the safety?). Keep in mind too...most cops carry hammerless semi-autos, like Glocks....where the safety is simply on the trigger and not an actual switch.....Originally posted by stevo View PostYes, but you have the safety on, correct? Personally I don't carry as much as I used to, but for me it depends on which gun I'm carrying...My Colt and Springfield both have much safer more positive feeling safeties (beavertail and grip), so I do usually carry them hot with the safety on. However my Glock doesn't feel as safe, and I still don't fully trust that trigger safety myself...so it's not normally racked.
Let me just make a disclaimer here....I'm not advocating for the cop in this situation, I think there is plenty of blame to go around here...I think it's safe to say that neither party is 100% faultless...it's a shame it happened to someone, especially someone so young with her whole life ahead of her.Originally posted by SS Junk View PostImagine the backlash on this site if one of you who agrees the mother is wrong with how she is presenting herself were told the same thing if it happened to your kid or someone extremely close to you. I simply made an observation that it appears the mother is now trying to turn this into a rights (maybe even race?) issue, and it's a shame that everything has to come to that in this day and age....that's all, nothing more....just an observation. I'd be damned upset if it was my daughter too....I couldn't imagine and don't want to even think about it.
