I have left three different companies when it looked like there was "some" financial trouble. As in, we start pushing the coffee vendor out to 120 days, shit like that. I cannot imagine waiting around to let the assholes cut my pay to minimum wage, especially if I'm only bringing down 450/wk to begin with. Must be a typical lazy, shitty government employee that's unemployable elsewhere.

Exactly. Most government workers have no skills or work ethic that translates into non affirmative action/ competition based private sector work

True the equipment is there, but the training is not. Qaulity training cost $$$, which the city obviously does not have. In a city that large you are not fighting grass fires, a monkey can fight a grass fire. These days 90% of FD calls is EMS related. Do you want some volunteer firefighter, with poor training or base knowledge coming into your home when your father is having a heart attck, or when your 1yr old son is having seizures?

Are you saying that there aren't separate EMS and ambulances? If you can't afford professionals, you get what you pay for. That simple. If the tax base won't support what they have, they don't have the money.

What do you mean by separate EMS and ambulances? I guess they could go to a private EMS system, and have volunteers for the fire side. Many citys do that. Sucks all the way around for the public service employees there, glad I dont work there thats for sure.

Cutting the funding on something that should be top priority is not a smart thing. That's peoples lives we are talking about. Cut funding on parks or other projects they may have. Human life trumps all.

This, yes the city might be broke, but Im willing to bet the citizens would be in favor of doing whatever is necessary to keep them safe.

Not sure what you are trying to say here. It sucks its coming down to this for many cities. My city is in rough shape as far as budget goes, but thank god its not that bad.

Yup. It'll ding your credit, and if it is big enough they might sue you. Even if they win they can't garnish your wages. The judgement will stick around for 10 years, but nothing else will happen.

They have to pay to keep the judgement updated, annually I believe. Once it lapses you can start trying to get it removed. Texas also has a 4 year statute of limitations that opens up possibilities of getting the debt scrubbed early as well. Texas is really friendly to the debtor and offers quite a bit of protection.

Except the citizens didn't want to do what was necessary to increase the funding, by refusing to let the city increase taxes.

They probably didnt know the consequences of their decisions, or atleast I would hope. Im sure most of the population never got past reading "raise tax's".
