French Foreign Legion would be fun if you're single.

ive thought about this too, but i have a newborn son :/

I think the navy would be a good career path for me as far as getting into nuclear engineering, but i dont know how id be able to support a wife and baby on a military salary.

One of my roomates in the Army was a dude that enlisted at 30 or 31.. He had no issues but I would be most concerned about:

        1. Being constantly surrounded by a bunch of dumb-ass 18yo.
        2. Lower tolerance for nonsense than at 18 (meaning what crap I would be willing to put up with).
        3. Nearly everyone senior to you being younger than you.

If you can deal with all of that, then go for it!

I had a good friend enlist around 26 and he almost always ended up as the leader just because he was older and wiser than the 18 year olds.

I thought about it a lot in my late 20's/ early 30's. Then my life demanded to stay local (Mom's and Dad's health failed, those years sucked BTW).

After that great fun was over I was basically too old. I would not have enjoyed being in my mid thirties yelled at by younger, better shape, higher ranking kids that cant buy beer.

Some say... they have been raced, some a lot

There is nothing wrong with wanting to serve later in life but I would recommend looking at where you want to be in 10+ years and seeing if the military will help you get there. If you have a degree you can become an officer, way better pay and not as much babysitting but a shit ton of paperwork (at least in the army).

Yeah, If I was going to try to do that I would definitely only consider it as an officer.

I thought you still could but had to fill out some costodian documentation or something, for someone else to have custody if and when deployed.

I considered it, but I don't take orders well, don't like people yelling at me, don't like people in general (may be good or bad) and I like to do things that the military would frown upon.
