i'm not a fan of the holidays either. i'm sure being single, no kids and getting older has a lot to do with it. my immediate family is really small and all local, so it's really not anything special to get together.

Its a hard time of year for most without kids imho.

We are 6 hours or more away from any family. We get to see them a max of twice a year if we are lucky. The people with kids take the whole damn week off or more.

As far as buying people shit im kind of a Grinch. I will put in a few hundred, but i dont expect or want anything from anyone else.

The spirit of x-mas was lost along time ago. I remember if i got a toy that was 20-30 bucks i thought i was the shit. Now if its not a 300 dollar x box or i pod the kids need therapy because mommy and daddy do not love them.

X-mas to me is the hope of spending time with family. Seeing as i dont have kids i was not able to take off two days to drive 12 hours with my wife. As i type this i am home alone, and for lunch i made some pizza rolls .

I too am disheartened to the modern christmas, my family is shattered and my wife and I are the only ones even in town to take out my mom for this holiday. My brother was too lazy to come home from school (that she pays for), my SIS just had better things to do and I no longer talk to my dad. Imake myself feel good by tipping the people I see everyday that have less than me ( gas station employees, cashiers etc). It is what I do to keep my holiday spirit alive. I was ready for Christmas to go away in October when I first heard the christmas music being piped into a store a week before halloween. Since then, its a parade off forced personas, manufactured stresses and people with their hand out looking to cash in on the goodwill of people who buy into the con of the "holiday". I see the worst in people these last few weeks, not in their actions per se, but in their expectations.

Evidently, being single means that you instantly get zero time off and have to cover for everyone else who has "important family things to do". Fuck you...i have important things to do as well. But obviously my time is less valuable than your time. Well see in a few months how that feels when the tables are turned and MY time is more important than Your time.

I really dont like either Thanksgiving or Christmas. I'm not religous and the majority of my family outside of my mom and a couple of cousins have all passed away. My christmas & thanksgiving is a dinner out with my mom and a movie. Pretty much indistinguishable from any other day of the year. Only main difference is everyning is fucking losed so there is nothing to do except sit around and listen to all the materialistic bullshit going on around me. Theres nothing about this time of year that is enjoyable, so why get worked up about it? Christmas carols are like nails on a chalkboard to me and I've worn out the mute button everytime a hyped up " oh you must love me a lot since you bought something expensive" commercial comes on.

I am so looking forward to dec 26th when the bullshit stops and i can stop being reminded at every single turn that everyone else is so much happier than i am.

Suck it.

I kinda agree with Jedi, but I have young kids and I enjoy watching their excitement...but I can do without the bullshit that adults do this time of year...like the examples stated above.

I feel you man. I can't stand this time of year. Everyone is in a shopping frenzy just to keep up with the Jones'. The time of year should be about cherishing those who you hold dear to your hearts. My family is almost non-existent, so the part of the holidays that I feel everyone should embrace is completely lost on me.

I'm about to go to lunch at my grandma's, but I'm free after that (until Tuesday) if you want to do something.

I'm just the opposite, I've got a huge family with lost of little kids, but I'm relegated to just getting a phone call this year. That sucks just as bad.

I agree on the shoppoing hub bub though, I do enjoy giving, but I'm glad to have not had to deal with the parking lot chaos, long lines, and crappy attitudes. When asked what I wanted this year I genuinely responded that I didn't need anything, don't hassle with the crowds.
