All of the aforementioned problems and a shitload of others I don't even want to recall. It was the biggest piece of shit I've ever witnessed at 3 years old and roughly 60k miles. Mine also ate tie rod ends like a fat kid eats cake. Stephen4785 explained why to me once, and that it was unique to some retarded design VW employs.Originally posted by davbrucasI want to like Slow99 since people I know say he's a good guy, but just about everything he posts is condescending and passive aggressive.
Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?
You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Didn't realize there were that many problems with the Jetta. I had just the opposite with my 2006 Jetta TDI bought new, the auto version. Sold it with 89K miles on it after 4 years driving to work and back. Only problem I had was a broken rear door lock, most likely due to the wind slamming it very hard one day. That was replaced under warranty.
When I sold the car, I was getting 38-40 mpg granny driving to and from work. Never took it on an extended road trip. Only a daily driver to Raytheon for 4 years prior to retirement!
I miss the fuel mileage of the diesels. A neighbor up the street has the late model Jetta station wagon TDI and is getting 40 + mpg in town.Mustangs previously owned:
1967 Coupe V8 (My first car)
1992 LX AOD
1993 LX Drag Car
1995 GTS
1997 Cobra
2000 Cobra R
2002 Corvette C5 A4 10.64@ 127.1
Undercover SC Dragster 8.10's
In the garage now....
2016 Honda Accord Touring
2015 F-150 Silver 5.0 XLT SuperCrew, like new condition
Retired 2008 after 41 years as an EE at LTV (Garland)/TI/Raytheon. Enjoying ham radio now.

The new DSG and O9G transmissions(2006+mkV,VI models) are a lot better.

And I came very close :bBishope: to buying a low mileage 2004 Jetta TDI! Glad I waited. l have to admit I did not do a lot of research into the Jetta TDI. I just wanted a high fuel mileage vehicle when gas prices were starting to rise fast. Even when the diesel prices were over $4 a gallon, my cost to operate the Jetta per mile was still much lower than almost all of the gas vehicles at the time.Originally posted by gonzoss View PostThat just it...the older version of the VW auto's are shit(95-2005models mkIV models)

Agree with this. Had an auto in my former '97 Cabrio and started seeing issues at 80k miles. That was my last VAG automatic until I bought my R32. The DSG has been fantastic, but granted, I only have 44k miles on it.Originally posted by gonzoss View PostThat just it...the older version of the VW auto's are shit(95-2005models mkIV models)
