I had a cop tell me once, that the fingerprints to thefts like this are seldom actually run through the computer to determine who the culprit was. He said it was quite costly, (didn't say why) and that the bill almost always ended up being higher than what was stolen. He went on to say that its only usually done in homicide investigations. This was when I managed a Gym back in 2007 that got broke into, and they took over $13k worth of workout equipment and office electronics. As far as I know, they never caught who did it, or recovered any of the equipment. I was pretty good friends with the owner and he would have told me. I'm not saying this to like squash your hopes or anything, just thought it might help you out in some of your short term decisions.
