No crime committed, means nothing they can do. Of course there was loud barking by the LEOs in the ER. They are police officers, hear them roar!

lol...now you are the one making assumptions. The girl ended up telling the police that the guy who showed up claiming he was the uncle was a meth dealer and her boyfriend called him. She said he was the guy who sold to her boyfriend.

The "uncle" signed legal consent for treatment under a false identity pretending to be her uncle and legal guardian. I guess I watch to much Law and Order and think that police officers should investigate and pursue drug dealers that try and essentially kidnap minors from hospital care.

Im with you...but Im not the doctor making the calls at my work. Honestly he tried to send her home with the "uncle" and the only reason he finally agreed to call the police was because the uncle ran off when we were discussing calling the police. She had no more ride home. I was pissed about the whole situation and him thinking the uncle was an ok person.

Adding up the boyfriend told the meth dealer to take off because he overheard us saying we should call the police to find the mother.

Oh...and I really dont suspect the girl to live that long. Unfortunately she seems like one of those teens who is gone beyond no return. Very sad

Our main goal is to move patients through the ER in the safest and most efficient manner possible. She obviously didnt have an emergency and needed to leave but he is assuming some sort of liability by sending her home...1, with a man that he needed to convince himself was the uncle, 2, she was still intoxicated and really not someone you can do a good exam on, and 3, she had suicide ideation. So sending this one home was a risk. If she would have left and gotten behind the wheel of a car and killed herself or someone else, the doctor is liable. If the "uncle" sexually assaulted her the doctor is liable. If she killed herself, the doctor is liable. So, she stays in the ER until she is completely sober and not suicidal and has a ride with someone trustworthy.

I want to agree with you and will do my best not to continually argue - but if people in like you and in your position give up on these punk kids, there really is no hope for them.

Their parents obviously have or maybe don't know somehow. Of course, you are a doctor and not a damn counselor - so realistically it completely wrong to think otherwise.

I dunno, I just think of some of the dumb crap I did as a kid (not quite that dumb). We all know other people who were idiots too and are not productive and contributing members of society.

Sometimes I really think the whole military conscription idea is not such a bad idea. Out of my whole basic generation (in my family), I was the only one to join the military and the only one making out okay with 0 jail time.

It would have been so much easier in the beginning if the girl would have just called mom and it would have been done with. If we would have just called the police in the beginning (or threaten to) so we could find the mom, it would have been smooth and gone quickly. She wouldnt have been in our ER for 7 hours.

In the end, I really wished the police would have tried a little harder. Sleeping in your cruiser is not "looking for the guy". The damn boyfriend would easily crack and give up the information they need if they would simply show up on his doorstep. He is still in high school and lives with his parents. He just needs a good scare so they can catch the guy who tried to take the kid.

there was a lot of bark when the officers were in the ER. They said they will be paying a visit to both parties, arresting the dealer if they find him, bringing in the kid for questioning, etc... then no bite

Sounds like the cop was BS'ing the suspect in the hope of getting them to confess to something that the could take action on. In most cases police are allowed to lie to get information.

That's why you never say anything to the police without a lawyer.

I agree with u on the first and last paragraph. U want to help these kids but if they don't want to help themselves there isn't much u can do and yeah parents now a days just don't seem to be in the picture and that is just sad

What law did they break? Violating a hospital policy is not something the police can enforce. There is no charge for lying like that.

Upon reading the additional info u posted, it would warrant a detention and investigation at the minimum.
