Agreed, I grew up in corpus, and even the ghetto HEBs were well staffed with. Helpful people. Every one I've ever been to has been leaps and bounds above Tom thumb, Kroger, and walmart.Originally posted by abecx View PostStrongly disagree with that, the location I went to quite often in Houston was amazing regarding the personal running the place.

LMAO really. That's why they ran the competiton out of South Texas. Kroger, Albertson and everyone else closed their doors cause they were losing to much money. Super Walmarts even lose money on their food in South Texas because of H-E-B. They are so large nationaly they can afford to still stay open.Originally posted by Silverback View Post...Even with high demand, the company sent NBC 5 a statement saying they "don't have any current plans to open additional stores in DFW at this time."
While customers wait for possible expansion, HEB's potential competitors say they're ready.
HEB's other brand, "Central Market," has about a dozen stores in the area. The company says they are focusing on growing and expanding that brand as well.
They are also a great company to work for. They promote within and my father retired from H-E-B after 40 years of work. It's the only company my brother has ever worked for also. He started off bagging groceries at age 16 and today he makes well over 6 figures.

Well, I may have to eat crow on that. I hadn't heard that statement, and I know that H-E-B would decimate the competition with a store on N Tarrant, so that's what I was going with.Originally posted by Silverback View PostI would agree. HEB has stated they have no intentions of bringing the HEB grocery concept any further into dfw, but they would be building a few new Central Markets in the next few years. This was a year or so ago, so who knows.
Well, maybe the Austin stores are run by a different "regional manager" or however their locations are split up. Riverside, 7th street, Congress, and Hancock Plaza were the ones I went to most growing up. Of those, only Hancock Plaza has ever been worth a shit. My parents now live right down the street from the Kyle store at the 1626 exit. I have never seen so many incompetent employees in my life, even at the Riverside or 7th street stores. If they're not being rude or incompetent, they're standing around doing nothing while there are only about half as many lanes open as they need. My parents will pass up that store to go to the H-E-B in Buda, which is noticeably better, but still not good.Originally posted by abecx View PostStrongly disagree with that, the location I went to quite often in Houston was amazing regarding the personal running the place.
I've never had a friendly checker at the Waco store. I have had good experiences further south, though. We would always look for an H-E-B down by the coast to stock up on groceries while on vacation (Port A or Corpus).

There's no HEB in Port A, only an IGA. HEB has said they will not open a store in Port A, until they can successfully sustain two grocery stores as the IGA is locally owned and has supported Port A for many years. The closest HEB to port A is across the ferry in Aransas Pass, or back across the bridge in Corpus in Flour Bluff.Originally posted by hotrod66stang View PostWell, I may have to eat crow on that. I have to second the HEB in Hachie. Good meat counter, produce, and hot, fresh, hand-made tortillas. I miss that store already.Originally posted by kingjason View PostBack in the day it was an agreement between Brookshires, Minyards, and HEB. When we dropped a Sack N Save in Waco they were pissed. They did all sorts of crazy stuff. They actually would under cut our adds cheaper then we could buy the stuff. Turned a buggy full of groceries over in the parking lot one time and started screaming how the same buggy would cost you 50.00 less. It is a shame the offspring that took over Minyards after Buddy died just let it go and stopped growing the chain. I got out right before they started the down hill slide.
Even when I lived in DeSoto I drove to shop at HEB in Hachie. Now that we live down here it is even better. I like Brookshires also but the store in Red Oak is just not as good as the HEB in Hachie.

Right, I wasn't sure exactly where they were. I guess I should have made it clearer that Port A and Corpus were the destinations, not the locations of the stores. We would also stop in Gonzales? to pick up more cheap-ass Shasta sodas for the ride. Shasta Black Cherry or Cream Soda FTMFW!Originally posted by Silverback View PostThere's no HEB in Port A, only an IGA.

I really like Central Market, but I hope the one on N Tarrant is an actual H-E-B. It's just so hard to beat those prices and Combo Locos when they pop up. Central Market has great produce, an extensive meat counter, bulk spices, etc., but it's not cheap. I would love the H-E-B there, and if I want to hit up Central Market, it's down the street in Southlake.
