My wife just got her degree in athletic training. She got hired on at a local high school and while the money is very good with her stipend it is a hell of a lot of hours. She teaches four classes, does treatments before and after school, and then attends most of the sporting events. Leaves the house at 6 am and gets home around 8 pm most of the time. I can see now why they get the summer off.

2 year or 4 year doesn't matter. Either way it pays quite a bit more money then a high school.Originally posted by Treasure Chest View PostYou also didn't say "Upper 50's to low 60's." You said "$65K-$70K." You're also looking at her being a lecturer, not professor, associate professor, or assistant professor, with a Master's degree....IF she can find a job at a university....only having a Master's degree, she may have to stick to a 2 year college.

Being she is educated in science, more specifically Biology, she is in a high demand field.
A college instructor is also a less demanding job then k-12. It's strictly a 8-5 job and that gives an employee plenty of time to create lesson plans, grade, set up labs etc.
Her starting off at 70 is hopeful I agree, but upper 50's and low 60's is right around the ball park where an individual with a masters in biology would receive.

Depends on the college...Originally posted by Treasure Chest View PostA Master's degree won't get her a tenure track position at a college, and she certainly won't start out at $65K.

Except in post #86 where you wrote, "kids only fail when parents fail."Originally posted by 89gt-stanger View PostBcoop- I was speaking in general terms, not singling out specifics. It is not a 100% of the time concept that I introduced. My point is, there are many, many, many families that are broken, and children are often put on the back burner.

It's not uncommon for my wife to have students to come in late, because they are putting in a 2nd shift at McDonald's so their dead beats parents can afford to keep the light bill on.Originally posted by 89gt-stanger View PostBcoop- I was speaking in general terms, not singling out specifics. She is working towards are masters right now and that will be an extra $2k a year.
I'm really hoping she can find a college to go teach when she gets her masters and starts making the 65-70k a year she at a minimum deserves.
