  • Austin,Tx: What to do?

I'm going to be in Austin for a wedding Friday/Saturday. I have all day friday and all day saturday with nothing to do until 5 pm. It will be my FIL and myself on Friday. My FIL likes bbq and loves ribs so if there is a must eat place for ribs I need to fit it in.

What else is there to do? I'll have a 7yo nephew for part of Saturday so I need to keep him occupied with something.

salt lick probably some of the best BBQ in texas.

World-renowned Texas Barbecue from the beautiful Hill Country. Visit the original pit at the restaurant in Driftwood, TX, or buy our barbecue online and ship to your door anywhere in the lower 48.

^^^ that. The Oasis is a cool place to eat but not really BBQ. Just don't turn into a hippie while you're down there.

No, no, no. Just, no. It's actually a far cry from "some of the best bbq in TX." That place is good atmosphere, and ok bbq.

OP - I hear Franklin's is hands down the best in Austin proper. Go for a burger and the green chile fries at Casino el Camino.

Hula Hut, Home Slice, Texas Chili Parlor, Continental Club, Trudy's, original Chuys. A lot of people will say Guero's Taco Bar, but I've eaten there half a dozen times and have yet to have anything I thought was even vaguely decent. I would visit the bar for drinks though, as it has a kick ass atmosphere.

I'm going to be hitting up Austin for the first time this weekend as well. Just booked a hotel off of 6th street, so bring on the drinking, partying and eating suggestions.

I've been wanting to try Franklin's ever since I saw it on No Reservations, but I'm not sure I'm willing to wait 2-3 hours for any food regardless of how good it is.

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Best bbq I had when I lived there. I'm sure they have a restaurant now - I had it out of a trailer.

There are some ridiculously good trailer eateries in Austin. You Gonna Eat That Or What comes to mind. Hell, I made a stop in Austin on the way back from Corpus just to grab a meal there last time I was through.

Jackalope also has good burgers and pizza.

I wouldn't be particularly concerned going anywhere with a 7 yr old, being that you will have him during the day time.

Franklins does have a Resturant setup now off of East 9th. Get there early if you want pulled pork they sell out quickly. I went with some out of town friends awhile back and it only took about 20 minutes of standing in line till we ordered and this was around 1130 on a Sunday.

WHAT? They might be the only BBQ joint in the Southern US that's open on a Sunday.
