Starting to plan an adventure, Arkansas to New Orleans by river

A good friend of mine and myself have been talking about doing this for some time. He has a big sailboat that we take out on occasion and would like to make a serious trip. So we thought why not make an awesome trip out of this. Live off the boat fish bring a grill. We are beginning of the planning stages, will happen in early March as of right now. I think this will be a hell of an adventure taking the old steamboat routes that they would ship on from the coast.

Had my grandfather been able, his goal was to buy a housebout that was capable to navigate the rivers, since they lived off the White river in AR, they were going to take it to the mississippi river to NO.

It is a sail boat with live in quarters and a motor , not sure the wind will help us out much within the bank lines!

Not sure honestly, it is a buddy of mines boat we are planning on taking. He has got from Shreveport to Natchitoches without any problems before. So why not make it all the way!

That's what I was wondering. Don't they normally have fairly large keels that would mean you need to stay in deeper water?

It is not a huge sail boat, i think like a 26', draft is really not that bad.

is there a way to check water depth. last few times ive passed over the river on 220 it looked really low
