If those deputies did in fact hold up the crossing gate arms....they are so FUCKED I don't even know where to begin. When I worked at DART and in Austin on the Austin Western both railroads had to issue instructions to the police agencies that responded to crossing malfunctions that they were NOT to lift the arms for traffic unless authorized by train control or a signal maintainer. Several DART police officers were reprimanded when I was there.Comment

Some class 1 locomotives have an automatic bell and horn when it comes within a certain distance from the crossing they automatically activate. Our Safety director the fucking safety director told us not to hit the brakes until you hear metal crunch. How fucked up is that?Comment

Going to be a very sad day around town. Latest story I've heard was the gates started coming down while the trailer was on the tracks and the driver was honking trying to get the other truck full of vets to move faster so he could get it off the tracks.
