I am curious to learn more about this. We are moving to Rowlett & want to keep a certain safe distance to prevent actual joint custody. We have primary custody, But if we moved in the same County of this person & within 20 miles would this help that person obtain Joint Custody of every other weekend

So how much does he have the kid now? I don't think it's right to keep either parent from a child unless one is unfit. So I don't see a problem with joint custody. And if one of the parents is unfit, it can be proven in court. I'm just not seeing the problem.Originally posted by SEB View PostNothing wrong with it. Its the normal setup, Every other weekend type deal. Our concern is provided we move closer that they will attempt to persuade the child to live there at their hoe on a full time basis. Just trying to avoid future problemsOriginally posted by bcoop View PostSo how much does he have the kid now? I don't think it's right to keep either parent from a child unless one is unfit. Child can't make their own decision until they are over 13 I think, if that helps. It might be 12, I can't remember.Originally posted by SEB View PostIts the normal setup, Every other weekend type deal. I'll look around and see what I can find on the age. I get what you are saying, but spending a more equal amount of time with each parent is better for all involved, unless (as stated) one is unfit. Just my opinion of course. I'm pushing for more time with my daughter now that she is getting older.Originally posted by SEB View PostChild is question we are worried about being persuaded if we move close is 12Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

The parent is actually a great parent and not a ill word I can say about him. Just want Routine in the house. Children need structure & routine.Originally posted by bcoop View PostI'll look around and see what I can find on the age. Man, take it from a kid whose parents split at an early age: it isn't how much time they spend at which house that's important. What is important is that all parents involved (even step-parents) have one cohesive plan, and communicate what's going on with the kid to each other. Don't let the kid see daylight between you, and it'll be smooth sailing.ZOMBIE REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! heh

That reasoning is completely selfish Seb, there can be plenty of structure with joint custody. It sounds to me like you and the mother just don't want to have to deal with having your own lives affected, at the child's expense.Originally posted by SEB View PostThe parent is actually a great parent and not a ill word I can say about him. Put yourself in the father's shoes. How pissed would you be knowing that you and your child are missing out on valuable time together, just because it's inconvenient for the other parent.

^ this. From experience, if there is open communication between the families, there is a "united front" approach between both households, and petty bullshit is put aside for the best interest of the child, a 50-50 split makes for happier parents and children.Originally posted by Big A View PostThat reasoning is completely selfish Seb, there can be plenty of structure with joint custody.
