Car Buying Fee's Question?

Have you even had a state auditor? Max is $50 on doc fee unless you have written approval from the state. Administrative fee is just another name for an arbitrary paperwork fee (doc fee). The reason I ask is because our state auditor went after all the dealers charging over $50 without written approval.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI add a 199 administration fee to every sale we do. It's non negotiable. If a customer walks on a sale over 200,then that same customer is going to be a pain in the ass later anyways. We would move 30-40 vehicles a month in 2012. That extra 200 pays a lot of bills.
If the state finds your fee unreasonable, they'll force you to pay every customer that was charged it. Some of the independents in our area were bankrupted over it.Last edited by CJ; 04-09-2013, 06:52 PM."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

Yea, we were audited over a year ago. Administration fee has to be explained in detail on sales Form. It's not the same as a doc feeOriginally posted by CJ View PostHave you even had a state auditor? We had a few dealers adding admin fees to circumvent that, those were the ones that were targeted. If they approved it than nothing to worry about. I personally have never worked for a lender what would allow a $199 admin fee in Texas, I see them occasionally from independents but I won't finance that.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostYea, we were audited over a year ago. It's never been an issue for me. If they didnt want to finance it then someone else would. I have my finance license so I could always find them fundingOriginally posted by CJ View PostWe had a few dealers adding admin fees to circumvent that, those were the ones that were targeted. You don't understand the type of people that I sell to. I market to the people that desperately need a good car and don't have much money, so yeah, the $200 will cause a lot of people to walk. I also have a setup of what you see is what you pay, if I advertise a car for $2850, that is the out the door price.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI add a 199 administration fee to every sale we do. No bs pricing. That'll move a lot of cars for you right there!Originally posted by JC316 View PostYou don't understand the type of people that I sell to. It does indeed. People are always shocked when I tell them that the advertised price is total. Even though it's in the ad, they usually ask me several times just to make sure that I am not screwing with them.Originally posted by crapstang View PostNo bs pricing. A bad carfax/auto check is a great negotiating tool, but it'll be a thorn in your side when you want to get rid of the vehicle.Originally posted by IHaveAMustang View PostAnother question:
Does having a autocheck/carfax report showing it was previously in an accident (the one I am looking to buy shows it was rear ended) help negotiation?
It's been repaired, but didn't know if that was a good bargaining point.
Im looking at an MDX that is out of state, but I don't feel like flying out there just to haggle and walk away, so I have to jew them down before sending a deposit.

I would walk over $200, but I'm also the type who is quite pleasant to deal with...as long as I'm working with someone who isn't trying to screw me by padding the sale.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI add a 199 administration fee to every sale we do. I will only pay TT&L and the $50 doc fee, I walked on a $45k truck in Colorado over them trying to charge $500 in BS fees. When I'm shopping for a vehicle whether in person or online I always specify up front that I need a complete list of any and all fees that will be added to the purchase price.

Unless you disclosed that fee upfront well before we got to the paperwork, I'd absolutely walk. Too many dealers out there that aren't trying to pull last minute bullshit.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI add a 199 administration fee to every sale we do. It's non negotiable. That's actually the legitimate way to do it, but harder to hide when advertising.Originally posted by slownbmta View PostWe charge the max doc fee (approved by the state). I guess we could just raise the price of the car by xxx amount of $, so you people wouldn't cry about it
I've never lost a sale over it, and we sell 30-40 a month
