Any Army recruiters

The recruiting office by Ridgmar mall is very professional and you'll be in better shape when you hit basic than almost everyone else. They do regular on site PT and make sure you are prepared.

I know of a few recruiters for the National Guard in the DFW area, if you want their info. There are several cavalry/infantry units in this area as well as a supply aviation, and engineering unit, so there's several MOS's to choose from. To be honest though, what is he wanting to do? If he's needing a good source of income, might as well go active duty. Looking to serve while still maintaining a semi-civilian lifestyle, then sure, reserves/guard is the way to go. Just depends on what he is wanting and what he is willing to put into it.

Fort Hood is the largest military installation in the world. If you want Ft Hood, there's a very very good chance you'll get it. There's a HUGE aviation unit there, too.

I'm a bad example as a local reference, I was living in WA when I was in the reserves. The closest permanent duty installation to my home was at Fort Lewis, but there was a reserve unit based in Vancouver WA that was closer, that I was a part of.

My point though, was that there are reserve units based in places other than major Army installations, so there is a shot that there are units where you would go to monthly drills that are in the DFW area. That is especially the case with Army National Guard rather than Army Reserves. And although the Guard is based on the Army, it is actually a separate entity.

Knew a guy that did that in the Air Force went reserves but works full time at the base.

Gotcha.. I am only basing my info on how it was when I was in, but if you wanted to be full time, but not normal active duty, the only option as for the Army was AGR. Now, there were 2 guys in my reserve unit that worked at their job full time, but Mon - Fri they worked there as civilian employees. And I know those types of opportunities were limited.

As far as what there is at Hood, again, it will just depend on what the reserve units based there have a need for. But at a place as big as that it could be any MOS. Hell, when I initially joined the reserves, 11B wasn't even an option since there were no Infantry units in my area. I had 2 choices when I enlisted in the reserves, Supply and Personnel.

BTW, aside from annual training, the one weekend a month, and barring being called into active service, he will be at home and will still need a normal full time job. If he is looking for full time "reserve" duty, I believe you can try the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) which is actually Army National Guard but a full time job. At least, that was the deal when I was in a couple of decades ago.

Basically looking for a change without not seeing his son, after basic and school.
The office he is talking to isn't being much help.
