Dallas and other places I go ain't bad (since I mentally prepared myself for this when we did the move). For about 6 months I was doing work for a customer in Lancaster, TX. THAT REALLY SUCKED.

Otherwise, I'm not baller so I had to sacrifice a quick commute to get my kids out of the city areas.

Van Alstyne and north is going to be MUCH cheaper than Rockwall. Hell, that's why I'm here. Wanted quiet, some property and a fairly big home. Basically half price from the Plano area that I was in at the time - mainly due to "land price."

I do the drive nearly daily past Raytheon (depending on which customer I'm working that day) but it's literally about 20-25 minutes. I live about 4 miles away from 75. That's also doing the speed limit. Just south of there is where traffic usually binds up before 121.

Rockwall has been booming, I would assume property is going to cost much more there than on the North side of McKinney

A lot of people live in Anna and Melissa that work there.

    Van Alstyne (Little biased)
    Celina
Anna (They say the crime rate is going up there though - can't prove anything myself)
    Melissa

Basically those general areas. I know a really bad ass agent for this area, he live in Celina and has grown up around these areas. His insight is helpful when shopping for rental or to own.

If this goes well what areas should I look for a place in (just looking for a rental house at first)?

Sounds a lot like where I am at now...least I'll be back in Texas though.

Anyone at the McKinney plant in good with a recruiter? I would be grateful is someone could pass my resume along to someone who might do something with it.

Like mentioned we're in a big re-org Spring Creek is shutting down and people are being either shipped off or laid off. Richardson site has already been through two layoffs and another is coming up as they merged from six corps down to four so all the eng/admin/management positions that are duplicated are gonna get the chop.

Most likely any positions that are opening up are from pushing most of the old timers to retire.

Pay is good, benefits are nice, but tough times are coming.
