That's a possibility when you have all your eggs in one basket. Make damn sure it's the right basket. Local, state, and federal law enforcement were all focused on that 20 block area. If he had a vehicle that he didn't steal/hijack, they wouldn't even begin to know where to look.

With the whole area on lock down it could be a bit before a vehicle would be missed.
