That movie caused a whole generation to aspire to be phreakers/hackers. I remember trying to buy an acoustic coupler after that movie and being asked if i was a hacker lol.

I didn't use a micro tape recorder, but you could solder a 4.663(i think) mhz crystal in place of the normal one on a tone dialer and record to memory series of * depresses (* sound sped up = 5c deposits) to get free calls until ESS came out. We used to open up the big green service cans (7/8 box end) and start conf calls with a borrowed linemans handset. man, i miss those days.
