That said, even if I left it open, I don't like the idea of a cop coming in uninvited. If someone from my house calls in distress, or if a neighbor calls because they actually saw something suspicious (beyond just an open door), that's different. But just an open door alone shouldn't give them the right to enter. If the law says otherwise, that sucks.

I think jluv summarized okay from my perspective. Especially his last line, but the other sentences details what is okay/not okay from a lowly citizen's point of view.

I know, I know, we don't know what is good for us and are dumb asses.

Ya know, that's not fair. I know a lot of y'all get it and it is a totally different perspective. Look around though, do you not see a need for our paranoia?

No it stinks of case law and court system deeming it exigent circumstances. Has nothing to do with me being a cop or fuck you I'm a cop. Has everything to do with case law. Please ready precious posts before you imply I'm some rouge cop

I didn't take it out of context. I just thought the context he put it in was funny.

If I am dispatched to your house for a random BMV follow up or some other kind of bullshit I have no intentions of even touching your door handles or sliding glass window. I don't want to be in your house anymore then you want me there.

Reported post for not falling in line with your brethren.

Good post, and kudos for your honestly and lack of "fuck you, I'm a cop" mentality a la hustleman, the JBT.

This whole thread is pretty damned funny.

We elect officials and lawmakers that pass laws like these, and then the police do thier job as they are told, but they are the evil ones? Blame yourselves for that vote, or lack of.

I already told you I would be thankful if you secured my home. Totally different if you entered my home to steal from me. Read and comprehend please!

That officer did not enter her home to take anything. She did not claim anything was missing.

I mean it's also not like there's case law allowing LEOs to enter a home if exigent circumstances apply. The circumstance that a felony burglary might be in progress and police are commissioned to stop/impede crime. There is no need to argue that you feel that this isn't an exigent circumstance to you, because you don't matter. Appellate courts and supreme court already deemed it lawful and necessary. I understand you don't want anyone in your home. That is awesome. Not here to argue with you as that is impossible or not a sane act. You are not out there to see numerous times criminals climb balconies to enter location via the sliding glass door. I'm talking 3 story complexes. So as police we will enter the location if we are called out there to ensure a burglary is not in progress and make and effort to contact the resident to let them now their home is not secure. We will either secure it if we can or let them know to come home to do it themselves.

I mean, you have no need to know what I'm doing while in there though. I'll just lock the door though to make you happy.
