We don't talk about feelings in the family, at least the guys don't. If we go around him, we are expected to pretend nothing is wrong and drive on. Hell, when I came back from Iraq they gave me hell about the bright green stitches and didn't say a word about the damage. Dysfunctional but works for usI wear a Fez. Fez-es are cool

The timing of this is wild. I have a coworker that's had sciatica type symptoms for several years and developed prostate "problems" in the last 10 or so months as well. @ weeks ago, he went in for an xray due to bad chest congestion, but the tech made the pic a lil low. Th Dr was lookin at the xray and noticed something odd and sent him for an MRI. After those results, that Dr sent him for a cat scan.
As it were, he's going to have his right kidney removed because of a baseball sized tumor(cancerous) and that's the same side his sciatica symptoms were on. The Dr's are now thinking all these other problems were due to this kidney.

My dad went to a few doctors that just told him it was a nerve or a kidney infection. One bilked him for 4500 for 'laser treatment' that was BS. Fortunately someone actually took time to look at the Xrays. Contemplating what to do about all of these bad docs who were negligent but very happy that he's resting and comfortable.I wear a Fez. Thanks. Fucking with each other is fun and allows me to blow off steam but when the chips are down, it's just humbling. This man has worked since he was 12 and smoked since he was 10. Without an issue he laid down the smokes several months ago and until the day before yesterday was out with post hole diggers putting up fencing. When he had his knee rebuilt, he was stretching fencing, feeding chickens and trying to drag crossties around with his cane.Originally posted by YALE View PostDude' none of the bullshit fussin' and discussin' on this website matters. I think we all have one person in our lives that we believe is bulletproof, that no matter what happens they just push through. He's the kind of man I want to be. Hell, he spent a majority of his early teens running shine through east Texas.I wear a Fez. Fez-es are cool

That was my grandfather. He was a Command Sergeant Major with two purple hearts and a bronze star. He cheated the Chi-coms, the NVA, the Vietcong during the 1968 Tet Offensive, and ran himself over with a Ford 8N and a bush-hog. He had emphysema from 1983 until his death this past January, and put down a carton of Kools a week. I thought he would smooth cheat death forever.Originally posted by Forever_frost View PostThanks. If he's already back to being ornery, it sounds like he's doing ok to me
I really hope everything works out. My daddy had cancer & had surgeries, radiation, & all sorts of miserable stuff go on. He made it through & was ornery for a good 10 more years before his heart did him in.sigpic

My wife's grandfather was just like this before his heart gave out this year. He lost everything in the NZ market crash in the 80's and went from doing stocks to buying and selling real estate. Before he sold his business, he was the go to guy for high value real estate in that country and after he sold it, he stayed on as the guy who sold the highest value property. In the 80's they told him he needed a triple bypass and he told them to screw off.
In 2000, he got cancer and they wanted him to take chemo. When they told him it'd make him too weak to work, he took half doses and kept working and got into race horses as well as real estate. At almost 80, when he died, he was still selling and running horses and had just retired from real estate. You have to ask what that generation sees when they look at ours.I wear a Fez. Update: Here we go again. The cancer is back and they want him to do chemo. He has put his foot down and told them to go to hell. It was actually something along the lines of "I'll be damned if I let you poke and prod me anymore. You can take your GD chemo and shove it up your ass. Give me my clothes."
In my family we don't discuss decisions like this and while I disagree with him refusing treatment, the man is 75 and smoked the last 65 years. He has breathing issues from time to time and had knee surgery last year. Instead of waiting a week to put weight on his knee, he was out dragging crossties the next day.
I'm at a loss of what to do. Everyone in the family is having issues with dealing with this and I seem to be the only one holding up. PTSD has it's upside at times, no? Still, no one talks about this and while we bitch about small injuries and sicknesses when it becomes fatal, we go British and just ignore it. I don't know what to do at this point. I know better than try to bring it up, I know better than try to convince him of anything and just am spending time praying.I wear a Fez. Fez-es are cool
