I thought I read of a situation where a thief attempted to steal a car at a carwash while the owner was getting change. Owner shot and killed thief and was not charged. This was like 15 years ago I believe. I mean if you can shoot a hooker for stealing your monies I'd think you could kill a GTA perp?

It's also illegal to leave you car running while unattended, at least here in CA it is. It'd be 100% your fault if the car did get ganked, same thing if somebody made off with the cell phone before you got back to it.

Well, if you pull a gun, you better have a CHL, and if you have a CHL, stopping a misdemeanor theft isn't exactly in the guidelines for pulling a gun. Deadly force isn't authorized in this case.

If you don't have a CHL, then you are UCW. Either way, the scumbag can (and did) say that he was removing the keys for the owner/driver. It's a reasonable (although untrue) statement.
