I rented a condo and I'm going to Keystone Colorado Nov 16-23. That's a great place for hiking/camping if you are up for cold weather conditions. Hiking and camping among the mountains, hills, trees, rocks, lakes, snow, etc...Originally posted by suckerdin View Post...
the hiking/backpacking thing sounds pretty awesome. I did a lot of climbing in college and that's something I'm still into i just don't have a climbing partner in these parts. What are some places for REAL hiking/backpacking?
Let me know if you are interested in ride-share and/or condo-share.Jay Johnson

I'm really digging the camping idea. Any state park recommendations? I looked a few up and I'm really liking the west/southwest texas scenery. It's a bit of a drive but it looks like it'd be worth it.Originally posted by 56482only on DFWMUstangs...

Mtn biking is my main hobby right now besides my guns. I got back into it about a year ago when my 12 year old asked me, " dad are those bikes real or just here to make the garage look cooler". She is very athetic and now we ride together every chance we get. I had forgotten how much I loved it. Only a grand for a good bike and there is lots of places to ride around the metroplex.

I agree with you there. I love doing carpentry work. I havnt got into turning wood, because I don't have a lathe. A buddy of mine does and I have jacked around with it a few times, takes a lot of practice. But nothing beats the feeling of looking at something that u made from scratch with ur own two hands.

You can usually find a decent deal for a lathe on Craigslist. That's where I've gotten a couple of the ones I've owned. A lot of the times they thrown the chisels in with it. The current one is a Delta 46-460, which is possibly the best "midi" lathe on the market. 1HP and variable speed gives it enough umph for most anything I throw at it.Originally posted by 2000 vert View PostI agree with you there. Here's a Jet "Mini" lathe BRAND NEW in the box for $400
http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/tls/4139392450.html Usually about $440-450 then throw in sales tax and shipping..
Better yet, here is a used ShopSmith Mark V for $450. Use it as a lathe, table saw, drill press, etc, etc.. IMO it is great for a hobbyist.
I always tell folks to try turning a pen. It's super easy but you can also get very complicated with Scottish knots and other detailed designs. I call it the gateway drug of wood turning.

do you know anything about the woodwork hobby shop in arlington next to sports authority (or whatever that sports store is) on 20 and cooper? I gave it a walk-through once and found some really cool stuff like pen kits and stuff. Would the "kit" type stuff be good to get the feet wet?Originally posted by Sgt Beavis View PostYou can usually find a decent deal for a lathe on Craigslist.
