Just a little JFK history

50 years ago today, my dad was a young Dallas police officer working at Market Hall waiting for the president to arrive...

My grandfather was a Dallas Police officer on the scene when the shooting took place.

I worked with a couple of guys who were in Homicide at DPD when JFK got shot. Great guys. Used to know a guy (dead now) who was the motor jock at the rear of JFK's car - he said he had to go by the nearest fire station and wash the vaporized blood and grey matter off his scooter and uniform.

The two homicide guys would not discuss the case at all. You could tell both were tired of hearing the same questions. They'd just give a knowing smile or wink when somebody said they had doubts the Oswald was the shooter.

I know those guys know/knew Ted's dad and David's grandfather.

Ted, cool story about the flyers - As much as I've heard and read about the case I don't think I'd ever heard that.

They also found one on an episode of Storage Wars, valued at $1,000. But I don't trust the estimates on reality TV.

My dad did alot of hunting with Jim Leavelle, the one in the Stetson handcuffed to Oswald. That man gets ridiculous amounts of questions.

Eisenhower had a lot more to do with escalating tensions with Russia than Kennedy did. And Johnson had a lot more to do with civil rights legislation than Kennedy did.

Yet somehow Kennedy has received excessive blame for the former and credit for the latter.

That is the show I was thinking of. I am not sure how I ever got Pawn Stars and Storage Wars confused, but I did. Thanks for the correction. I remembered they had it appraised and I guess I just figured it was Rick Harrison's "friend that knows everything about these"

I've always been interested in the JFK assassination since I was a kid. I've always thought that the conclusions they came up with against oswald was just too convenient, and his wife supposedly spilled a lot of beans about him that she shouldnt have known about.

In high school, I lived two doors down from James Leavelle's son. Mr. Leavelle was the DPD detective handcuffed to Oswald when he was shot by Jack Ruby. He's pictured here, on the left.



His son's home office was full of memorabilia from the event and one year I convinced him to come speak to my US History class. He shared a lot of info and stories. His dad was also in the Navy and survived the Pearl Harbor attack. I was very intrigued with the whole JFK assassination and WWII during that time, so that was real treat for me.

He was the supreme allied commander at the end of WW2 and was our governor of Germany. He was president during the Korean War and when the Russians shot down a U-2 over their airspace. We didn't get along with the Russians during the war and it got worse when we tried splitting up Europe.

I met mr. Leavelle a few months ago. We sold a house to a retired DPD officer and he was walking the house with him one day. It didn't completely click until well after we had left who he was.

I feel sorry for J Leavelle. For 50 years he's been known for ONE thing that he'd probably rather just forget - of all the DPD officers and detectives involved, he became the face everybody recognized. But no, everybody's gotta ask him the same old questions. The man cannot go anywhere without everybody(1) bugging him.

...It didn't completely click until well after we had left who he was.

I have heard that after the assassination that everyone treated people from Dallas as if THEY shot the president. People were flat out discriminatory to Dallasites outside of Texas.

When i was in High School one of the substitute teachers told us he was a Secret Service agent working the motorcade that day and every time he subbed he just told us stories. I don't remember his name though. It was like 99' or 00' in Fort Worth.

I have a kinda cool fact about JFK. My wifes uncle, Clifford Blanks, gave Kennedy his last shave and haircut before he went to Dallas.
