Well had to take my old lady tonight to the ER for high blood pressure. I mean it was crazy high. Like 244 over 120. Well we visit our daughter up in nicu for a second since we was here. But they have us here in the trauma section. Just alittle to crazy down here for me. I also don't like over hearing them say CLEAR. Not good to hear. Trying to keep my mind and ears off from what's going on around me.

It's called a Hypertensive Crisis. Can happen for a variety of reasons. I had a patient once that mixed a certain class of anti-depressants with another class of anti-depressants called MAOIs and had a hypertensive crisis as a result. 220-230 systolic.Originally posted by kbscobravert View PostUnmedicated I am a 150-160/110-120 range BP. I have never heard of anyone hitting in the mid 200's.

You guys better keep really good insurance on her as it's gonna be very expensive to manage her problems as she gets older. I assume she has what is called renal artery stenosis...basically the arteries that feed the kidneys are narrower than they should be and the bloodflow to the kidneys is less than it should be...this tricks the kidneys into thinking that the total blood volume/pressure is low and the kidneys activate what is called the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system which increases volume by various mechanisms...this leads to hypertension and if not adequately treated (the narrowed renal arteries), kidney failure over time (google it!).Originally posted by musclestang89 View Postyea they got her on some meds and got her bp down to 125 over 75. she has had high bp since she was 19. something to do with her kindey problems.
It would have been better had it been just preeclampsia...
