Yeah, that has always gotten to me. Hell, just having the cup holder lid open with my cell phone in there is enough to make me squirm. It just feels awkward.

Probably because it's pretty much impossible to use the cup holders with a manual. Even on road trips where you're just on the freeway, you lose the use of the console as an armrest on the current gen. I don't have a lot of complaints about my '13, but that is definitely an annoyance.
