The parents will have the defense that the kid pleaded guilty, acknowledging that it was HIS fault, not theirs. As well as the fact that he is old enough to be tried as an adult. The parents will have to pay for their attorneys until the plaintiffs lose.

There won't be any justice for the families involved in this case.

There is also a hell of a big difference between winning a case and perfecting a judgment.
