What makes it horrible to play with? Is it too dense?

After 2 years of playing nearly every day, I'm noticing more deflection coming off of my shaft and I'm missing some critical shots that required some heavy spin. I was watching someone else play with an OB shaft and saw his shaft weeble wobble off the cue ball and do him the same way. Whereas, if the ball didn't squirt out so much it would have made.

I absolutely cannot stand playing with a Cuetec with the fiberglass shaft. The feel sends chills through my hand and up my arm, but they don't deflect at all. I've seen the same type shot get made. I just can't stand the feel.

This had me wondering if a solid wood pin and joint might be required to make it feel right.

I own a few dufferin cues that are made in Canada. Great cues for the price.

Roscoe found all them there fancy words I couldn't remember. Schon's are good cues. I wasn't trying to say that this type of construction was bad. The lower end cues use scraps when building them. The glue cracks and then you'll hear a tick with a dull feel on the hit when it breaks down.

Typically, the purpleheart wood is used for making breaking cues. However, this will be for a shooting cue.

Walter Kelly is the cue maker that will show me how it's done. He makes the Hillbilly Smacker jump/break cue. He also does some custom cues.

I've made two cues myself, it's fun. Here they are:

I've often wondered about the wood ferrules. I've never liked them, but I was digging the looks when I found that pic of the shaft.

Thanks for the corrections on my post.

    Those look sharp. Well done.

I've got some choice sticks, but my favorite shooting stick is a cheap ass Lucasi that I bought used and put an HXT shaft on it with a Kamui Super Soft tip.

I've got maybe $200 in it (including all of the tips I've gone through). I've been offered more than it's worth, but I won't part with it.

A buddy of mine makes cues and he's gonna show me how to make my own cue. The shaft will be purpleheart wood and the butt will be turned down from laminated blanks of colored wood. I'm still trying to decide which joint and ferrule I want. Also, whether or not I want a wrap. I'm used to wraps, but I get tired of cleaning them. It would also take away from the aesthetics of the wood.

Yes he is ! they are all real cool cats over there. I just bought a break cue from them and love it. Also they do cue repairs, shaft tapers, tips, etc.

I like the looks of that cocobolo ferrule.

The cheaper cues aren't milled to fit very well and use glue to fill in the gaps. Predator does the same process as Rage. Typically using scraps to build a blank, then turning it down.
The higher end Predators aren't built this way.

The Lucasi hybrid shaft is built out of scraps.

As far as shafts go, there's not much point in spending more than $130 for the Player's HXT shaft.
You've got to be a seriously good player to feel or see a difference in deflection between it and any other low deflection shaft.

If i was gonna go low deflection I wouldn't buy a predator just because it's not american made.
