Would that be heading down the wrong path?

Agreed but why sharpen the knife? A nice rusted, jagged edge encrusted in the black, dried blood of previous felons is a nice touch.

Firing squad is the way to go without a doubt.

    Firing squad:
    1. Death is instantaneous with a well placed shot. In the event it wasn't a head shot, with sudden drop in blood pressure from an artery being hit the persons gunna be out cold lickity-split.
    2. Bullets are cheap
    3. As mentioned, there's something much more psychologically satisfying about it.

    Injection:
    1. Chemicals are expensive and having to hire a doctor to oversee the injection isn't cheap.
    2. Can take a long time to kill and there have been many cases of there being a mess and the execution taking forever due to not being able to find a vein.

You could also just give the perp a massive heroin OD. That'll kill them for sure and there's no issue of it being cruel.

Plus, there is some sort of satisfaction if a beastly criminal is blasted away, rather than injected. It's purely psychological (to me), but it gives some sort of peace. The mother fucker is dead. Not dry heaving and gasping for air.
right. Leaving the same way that got them in the chair.

Firing squad room in Utah, they used it in 2010.
