The IRS pays 4% interest if your refund is delayed due to the IRS. My wife got $62 or so this year, I will eventually get $40 or so if they ever get around to issuing me payment.

...it's not nearly as exciting to just save it, I know....but if I can't afford it any other time of the year, then I probably don't need to be buying it in the first place.

I'd prefer to save it but between medical expenses from havin a baby and hoping to get into our first home next year we agreed to just keep plugging away like we are for those 2 and use this to not stress over another large bill.

Sounds like that's a good decision and makes the best sense in your situation too. Nothing wrong with being responsible and getting into a home for a young family. It's too bad more people don't think the same way....and good to hear you aren't planning to blow it on a new TV for the Superbowl or something.
