    The SWB also had a different steering wheel. That's how I got banned on bimmerfest. A bunch of dumbfucks that didn't know the difference invaded my for sale thread and accused me of lying about mine being a real SP.     Yeah, the SWBs were available, but in the sport model and had no performance upgrades from the LWBs aside from gears. Only difference was weight, luxury and length, the ILs were 5.5" longer and weight, 740i 4255 lb, 740iL 4288 lb. I think they also had a higher numerical diff ratio also.

    The northstar V8 is known for head gasket issues, but the issue was mildly resolved in 2001 when they started using a bigger head bolt. They can still blow, but not as frequently as the older engines do. I have done the job, it's 20+ hours and runs about $800 in parts, you have to timesert all of the head bolt holes.

    I hope you're joking... The northstar 4.6L has nothing to do with the mod motor. Fun fact though, the design was influenced by the LT5 that went into the ZR1 corvette.
