I cant keep mine out of the water when at the lake, I can throw the retriever toy bird or the tennis ball a thousand times in a row, and he will keep getting it. Sometimes he will jump right off the dock before I have can pick it off the ground.

They are actually growing in popularity in Texas.

Are you going to cry? Just trying to understand what you're saying. This is the first I've heard of a don't waste your time looking at the parents genetics and gamble on a mutt because they're healthier way of going.

I understand they do vaccinations and test for diseases they may CURRENTLY have.

    At the ranch bird hunting.

At the lake house, and they love water.

More info about the bread here.
    http://boykinspaniel.org/
The official State Dog of South Carolina, the Boykin Spaniel is a medium-sized, all-around hunting dog with a cheerful, energetic personality. Possessing a rich, chocolate-brown coat and charm to spare, the Boykin is a favorite of hunters due to its willingness to work all day as well as its smaller size, which allows the hunter to lift both dog and duck into the boat at the same time!

Sporting Group; AKC recognized in 2009.
Ideal height: 15½ – 18 inches tall at the shoulder for males and 14 – 16½ inches tall at the shoulder for females.
    Hunting dog.

Hybrid vigor, dude. Also, a lot of pure reds were established by line-breeding, which is really just inbreeding. As for looking at their papers, you'd need to have the whole breeding book out so you could see how deep the gene pool is.

Most proper rescues will have the dogs checked and tended to by vets. When I was volunteering at dfwlabrescue, dogs were always checked, vaccinated, etc...there are lots of good stories from them helping dogs. That's why good rescues aren't cheap.

Breeder dogs can have the same issues too. I don't think you get a 1 week trial with breeder dogs like you do rescues. Expect to pay a lot if you are purchasing from a breeder to truly mitigate health risks.

Well, its because purebred dogs, by nature, are more prone to health issues associated with the breed. Breeders do try very hard not to breed dogs with health issues, but dalmatians are still likely to go deaf, for example, because it is still a recessive gene at best.

Chocolate color in labs is a recessive gene, and breeders breed for it. Chocolates are more likely to have more recessive genes, making them more apt to have hip displasia, etc.

With mutts, the recessive genes get deluded, and the dominant genes are more prevalent. The odds of a hereditary illness is reduced. Any dog can pick up kennel cough, parvo, etc, and putting strays together can be a hotbed. That doesnt mean that a mutt from the pound isnt going to have issues, it has the same chances as a purebred from the same pound.

Maybe the bones help, maybe it has to do with not feeding him table scraps. I had a friend that had a caine corso that was a drool fountain. It always looked like I was leaving a bukkake party when I left his place.
That's pretty cool. I hear they get dehydrated pretty easily (probably from the drool lol).

I've been to her parents house and an them cleaning drool off the ceiling. They've got rags in every corner of the house.

Yeah that's one of my main concerns.
