Niiiice. I need to update mine, the 3770k I'm using is showing its age for the amount of users I have. It regularly runs pegged at full utilization. I'll also need a large case as I've used all my hdd bays and I need to add more storage. I'd love something like your setup, but I'm not ballin like you.

FreeNAS is FreeBSD based, I prefer to use that for ZFS as its much more stable on BSD than Linux.

Yeah, the CPU gets abused, however you can transcode them into a easily streamable format which helps a ton. MP4 in H.264 codec with AAC is the best, it works on Apple TV, Roku, Fire, etc....

My MiniITX case was $90, the motherboard was $100, I probably paid $600 for all the drives though, had to get a sata expansion card too since the onboard only supports 4 drives.

Unless it's on your PC, it's $4.99 per device to activate. Totally worth it.
