Looking at possibly taking a trip down to the keys as it's a area I've always wanted to go. I saw tali's thread from when he went but was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations on places to stay. I thought of like staying in say Key Largo or one of the other islands a night or two then Key West for a few nights as well.

Trip McNeely goes down there about once a year, send him a PM. I'd also be wary of being there on a weekend, if you can avoid it. Very crowded. I highly recommend Douglas House on Key West. Just a gorgeous little hotel that feels like a sanctuary.
Sitting on the big covered porch that was part of my room, reading at night while listening to the sounds of the town and the rustle of palm fronds with the salty breeze providing some cool, the smell lingering in your nose, was one of my favorite parts of being there, and I didn't have to pay a dime for that aside from the cost of the room I was already in.
Check out a day trip to the Dry Tortugas. I wanted to go out there but didn't want to sacrifice an entire day.

My grandpa is entombed somewhere just to the west of Fort Jefferson (the fort in the Tortugas). He went down with the SS Norlindo after a u-boat attack during WW2. Damned Nazis.Originally posted by talisman View PostCheck out a day trip to the Dry Tortugas. I wanted to go out there but didn't want to sacrifice an entire day.

A buddy of mine is the sommelier at Wine-O in the Key West Crowne Plaza. I'll see what he can offer up as far as recommendations.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

Yeah we go typically once or twice a year. My father-in-law has a house down on Sugarloaf Key (4-5 Keys North of Key West),and we have 2 condos in Key West. The Keys are lots of fun. I actually just got back last week. Lots of good fishing if you have time and eating/drinking. Head down to Duval street and go to check out Sloppy Joe's, have a Mojito at the Flying Monkey, Margaritaville or the Green Parrot has the best Margaritas. Go into Irish Kevins, they have the best comedy acts. You have to stop at the Smallest bar in Key West, buy a stupid logo t-shirt at one of the hundreds of shops. Have a cigar at Mallory Square and watch the sunset with all that goes on there. The best Cuban food is there in Mallory Square at El Meson de Pepe. I don't know what else to add other than you can walk into any bar, have a drink and a cigar and carry your drink and cigar into any other bar and walk down the street enjoying yourself. Everybody is real nice and chill there. You'll have fun just hanging out really on Duval Street. However the later it gets, the freakier the crowd gets, be aware. I would stay near the Southernmost. Go see the Hemmingway house, and tour the light tower down that way too.Originally posted by talisman View PostTrip McNeely goes down there about once a year

Maybe I went to the wrong places but I went to Miami then drove all of the keys down to key west and I thought most of the state of FL was a bit of a dump, I much preferred Mexico.Interested in being a VIP member and donating to the site? Click here http://dfwmustangs.net/forums/payments.php
