Not that it matters since you've already made your choice, but...
I had bought a used 97 F150 extended cab 2wd back in early 97. It got 15-17 mpg on average. It was an automatic trans. I pulled our ski boat with it many times (about 3000 lbs). But after owning it those several months and seeing the kind of fuel mileage it was getting I decided to trade it in on a new 97 F150 extended cab with the 4.6L V8 and auto. The V8 got the same if not a little better on fuel mileage and hauled the boat and race car much easier, plus the sound of a V8 always trumps the sound of a six banger.
The newer Ford and Chevy trucks are doing much better in fuel economy these days. But by newer I mean in the last 3-4 years at the oldest. I've got buddies with the new Chevy trucks average 21-22 on the highway and my nephew has a 2010 F150 supercrew V8 2wd auto that gets 22-23 on the highway if you keep it around 70-75.Carl S.

You should easily see 35 on normal days. I commute quite a ways in a '13 Accord and see 30-37 mpg. Bad traffic is low end, good traffic is high end. I had a '12 Civic before then with all the bells/whistles and saw a minimum of 35.Originally posted by black2002ls View PostI haven't put enough miles on it yet to hand calculate. I filled up last night and have gone ~70 miles. I will fill up in the morning to start the work week fresh. The instant MPG stays right about 35. I am hoping for 35-40 mpg. My '97 civic coupe with the 5 spd got 34 all the time, no matter how I drove it. I am going to burn the first couple of tanks down the same way I drove the s10 just to compare. Then I am going to try and make myself set the cruise at 75 on the interstate and see what happens. I am hoping for 40, but staying optimistic that I will average 35. I need to figure out how to reset the long term MPG display in the morning.Originally posted by MR EDDU defend him who use's racial slurs like hes drinking water.

Agree for the sticker price. IMO it will remain at that price for at least a year as GM already has a butt load of orders for these things. They've added a 3rd shift to the plant and the trucks are hitting dealer lots any day now..Originally posted by black2002ls View PostI saw your post in another thread and immediately looked them up. The prices I was seeing turned me away.
BTW, Chevy announced MPG for the four banger today:
27mpg.. Only 1mpg better gets you 200hp/191ft lbs instead of the 305 in the V6. Pricing for the four banger isn't out but I bet it's cheaper..
