Because they even stopped smaller, independent theaters from playing it and are saying they won't release it on digital (VOD, DVD, BluRay).Originally posted by Craizie View PostI'm not sure why anyone is blaming Sony for this. Why would they release a movie MOST US theaters are refusing to play it?
LOL

Maybe Sony is giving in cause they don't want the hackers to release any more damaging emails or information. Also what if they gave in just to create hype for the movie? The movie might be bad, so release it a month later, we will want to see it cause we were told we couldn't.

Sony was in control of the release. They are the ones that allowed the major chains to back out of their contractual agreements. If the theaters refused to show, then Sony would either end up with a payout or in court against the theater chains.Originally posted by Craizie View PostI'm not sure why anyone is blaming Sony for this. How do you think that would have ended???Originally posted by 71chevellejohn View PostSony was in control of the release. I read a long statement by Sony yesterday that said they still have every intention of releasing the film (in some way), and that it was the theaters who fucked this up, and that they absolutely did speak with the white house on numerous occasions, even though Obama says they didn't. They said pretty plainly that they back the First Ammendment and that caving to NK is chickenshit and dangerous. The statement made sense. If the theaters won't show it, they couldn't release it in theaters. It may go straight to disk or Netflix, or whatever. I bet it will be very soon.

Pretty much what I expected. Even the part about how our wonderful president talks out of both sides of his mouth so he can look like he has a foreign policy.Originally posted by jluv View PostI read a long statement by Sony yesterday that said they still have every intention of releasing the film (in some way), and that it was the theaters who fucked this up, and that they absolutely did speak with the white house on numerous occasions, even though Obama says they didn't. Except there WERE theaters that wanted to show it, and Sony pulled the movie. Why not let those that wanted to show it, show it?? There's plenty of movies that have "limited release". This would have been a de facto one.Originally posted by jluv View PostI read a long statement by Sony yesterday that said they still have every intention of releasing the film (in some way), and that it was the theaters who fucked this up, and that they absolutely did speak with the white house on numerous occasions, even though Obama says they didn't. yall are acting like it was going to make money going against American Sniper and Unbroken.
I'm almost thinking that Sony is really behind #gop to cover for the initial hack and as an insane publicity stunt gone wrong as a reason to pull a poorly reviewed film out of the Christmas release lineup. So they can release it in Jan or Feb against less competition
