Less subforums

Since Tyler started this thread, I guess this is the best place for this question? Is DFWM dying? Is it going to be shut down at any minute due to lack of activity?

I'll repost what I posted in the mod forum.

I like the idea of fewer forums but I think the idea of having them is to spark convo that you don't usually have. Like, if I have a home question, I can post it in the back porch sure, but I may have never even considered it w/o the subforum.

Lots of talk of death but I really like where the board is right now, feels much like the early 2000's, less drama, less bullshit, etc

I usually just click new post and don't even pay attention to what forum anything is even in, I also rarely look at it on my phone, even with tapatalk it isn't worth it unless I'm stuck waiting on someone.

This is how I see it. I'm not exactly sure how having fewer forums will get the forum more activity.

There are only so many active members here. It's an absolute beat down opening each sub forum to scroll through shit. I mean, I can only imagine because I don't do it.

It's one of the reasons there are tons of repost thread topics. One guy will post about a particular thing in one forum. Another guy who never checks that particular subforum will post the same exact topic in a different one. etc.

I do think some trimming and reorganizing would be great, but am not convinced it would equate to more activity. Maybe some residual effect since it should be easier to navigate.

Jobs and education are the most obvious candidates to be cut, but an alternative would be to combine them into one for both, since they are somewhat related. Call it "Careers" or the like. I like some of the other suggestions on combining others too.

Maybe combine religion and politics into one. Can't think of a good name offhand, but something that plays off the fact that they are the two topics most avoided in conversation.

Combine the Detailing and Car Audio into one, name it something like Show and Shine, and move it to the Garage.

Home media / audio should be lumped in with home improvement.

Not that it eliminates any, but seems like the motorcycle and 4x4 forums should be under the Garage also. Get all the vehicle related stuff there. I would move that down beneath "General". On that note, the 4x4 forum could probably just go away since activity is so low.

I would dump the Smack too. More shit talking goes on in the backporch than there anyhow.

As far as subgroup order, at least for the General section, just order it by post count.

Honestly, none of it really matters to me since I rarely browse the subforums. My routine is to start with my subscribed threads, then I go straight to "new posts". I usually only browse by forum if I'm looking for something specific or haven't been on in a while and "New Posts" isn't bringing up everything.

I agree with keeping all of those except the SMACK. That forum has basically become a place where mods send drama threads to die.
