in light of all the super bowl coverage and the announcers that have super bowl rings explaining how the moment that they became champions changed their lives...

what moments in your life are constantly at the forefront of your memory, having changed you as a person or had a huge affect on shaping your life?

i only have one, as i am not married and have never experienced the birth of a child...

my most epic moment was on May 2, 1998, at Camp Pendleton, California. it was after a long and very trying 3 months at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot and at Camp Pendleton. it was upon completion of the "Crucible", at which point you are on top of a mountain they call the Grim Reaper. they have a ceremony where they play the Lee Greenwood song Proud to be an American, and they present the new Marines with their first Eagle, Globe, and Anchor. this is the first time in the process of becoming a Marine that recruits are actually referred to as Marines. i cried uncontrollably...

The morning of September 11, 2001. After having just gotten underway, we heard that the attacks had just happened and were ordered to load out all weapons and proceed at best speed to the north and take up air defense stations.
Realizing that you are very suddenly at war...that changes a person.
