My uncle has a ranch out there. The summers aren't as bad as people say.

Winters are nice, lows about 50*. Drivers suck there too, think Dallas, add 117*.

It was expensive to live there, coming from TX, but all the CA transplants thought it was cheap.

Went to a training in Phoenix for a week during spring, it was ok. I've never lived outside of Texas, and I dont think I ever will.

Expensive as far as housing or consumables? From what we found so far housing is about on par with here.

It is indeed hot as fuck out there in the summers and it's ok if you like never seeing grass anywhere and every house having that southwestern look with a gravel front yard and cacti in your flowerbeds.....

I have an extremely biased opinion of the Maricopa County area due to getting in trouble out there with some pain meds that I got from elsewhere and it turning into a 2 year nightmare..

If you're not homeless, an illegal alien, or a drug doer, and you have an indoor job and a car, It's not the ugliest city in the world by any means.

She would work in Tempe and I would be in whatever area I could get in nearby so most likely a suburb outside Phoenix

One of the pros for us would being able to take weekend trips to more kinds of places. Mountains, coast, Vegas

I was in Phoenix for 6wks during a record summer. And then back a few times throughout the year.

This. I lived there for a year and would not do it again. If you're into hiking, the desert, and dirt everywhere you look then it is the spot for you. Scottsdale is nice but expensive, but once you're outside of that side of town then there is nothing else...no other cities, etc.

Yes, was stationed there for about a yeas 07 to 08. I liked it and considered staying. Housing was pretty expensive though, gas was about on par with what my dad was paying then in Texas, and grocercies in general were about the same. Vehicle registration for residents is about $600 per year per car due to their California style laws on that. Heat was 117 or so as mentioned but it is a dry heat. Lots of outdoor activities and it is a short drive up north to the mountains and new scenery. I lived in Surprise which is on the NW side of the county and feels a bit more like a small town. But that would depend on where you or the wife works; during rush hour from there to Scottsdale could easily take 1.5 hours so it really just depends on where you work. Oh, apartment rentals were reasonable that I found, and housing may be better after the housing crash; I was there pre crash. I liked it, but I rarely went far into Phoenix just because I hated the traffic.
