I'm stuck at home with a bitch of a cough, so naturally my A/C decides to take a dump. My usual A/C guy is booked until late tomorrow, meanwhile My life is sucking to a pretty high degree. A little help?

That's good to know. I was trying to buy electrical parts to service my own A/C and there seemed to be a kind of blockade from the A/C service companies. Everywhere I called, you had to be a licensed technician to buy parts (capacitor and relay).Originally posted by Snatch Napkin View PostHave you had a chance to do any self diagnosis?
Mine went out last week.
I found that the fan wouldn't come on for my compressor unit outside. There was no burnt smell and the fan was not locked up.
Purchased a capacitor from Elliot's Electric for $15 and replaced it.When the government pays, the government controls.

When I thought my capacitor was out, I had no problems buying from an AC supply house. Bypassed the technicians that were trying to get the labor $.Originally posted by 46Tbird View PostThat's good to know. I also tried a local electric motor repair shop first, they directed me to the AC supply house.
Of course this was in Abilene... So the contact information probably isn't of much use to you..

Yes you can buy from tons of the appliance and ac parts supply places along 121 in ft. worth. Just replaced an outside unit contactor for $18. A/c guy wanted $300 to install.Originally posted by 46Tbird View PostThat's good to know. ACR supply in Irving will sell to the public. As long as it's something you don't need a license for, like refrigerant. My uncle used to own ACR along with the refrigeration school in Irving, but he sold them both and has since passed.Originally posted by 46Tbird View PostThat's good to know. But what I've done, is sourced them online and I keep a start cap for my condensing unit, a run cap for my condensing unit, and a capacitor for the inside unit fan on hand. Cheap as shit through HD online. They don't carry much stock (if any) in stores, but the last time I bought I think I paid around $4.50 vs $20+ at an a/c parts house.
As cheap as they are, and with the miserable summer TX heat, it's worth buying back ups to keep on hand. Especially if you're a handy guy, can troubleshoot, and are capable of doing this type of thing.Originally posted by BradMBut, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.Originally posted by LeahIn other news: Brent's meat melts in your mouth.

The guy said he'll sell you anything but Freon, unless you have a Lic.Last edited by prostock1; 06-30-2015, 01:46 PM.sigpic
