I wear a suit with no tie quite frequently. Was perfect for work (tech) conventions in SF. Functions that are "nicer" but not formal I do it.

I got 3 suits at MW. Also bought several shirts, ties, a belt, and dress shoes. For interviews and occasions where my wife drags me to some stuffy suit and tie event it does the job fine. If I had to wear suits every day, I'd buy something nicer and more comfortable with a strong tie to hang myself.

I buy my stuff from Jos A Bank, but I typically buy sports coats and slacks separately, because i'm built like a V. Anything suit wise needs to be completely rebuilt in the pants, unless I buy separates, which I've hardly found them in the right sizes.

I've always wanted to have a good company make me some custom tailored shirts, suits, pants and jackets. But the cost has always been out of range for the actual use I'd get out of them.

How long are you wanting to keep and wear it? Fused jackets are cheaper, but they don't last as long as a full canvassed suit. Tailoring is a MUST unless you go bespoke (choo choo, mofucka) Stay away from designer names, as their suits will look good, but be shit quality. Brooks Brothers has some pretty nice shit, but it's all more expensive than the 100-150 suits most in here are talking about. There are a ton of small details in a suit that stand out. Tailored or not, a cheap suit will not look or last as well as a nicer suit for a few hundo more. Most of the full canvas suits I've been looking at start in the 4-500 range.

nothing wrong with a jos a bank suit if you get them on sale especially if you hardly wear them. Its all about tailoring. you can have a well tailored JAB suit that looks better than a poorly tailored $10,000 suit all day long
